Hotel stickers, known as luggage labels, were particularly popular between the 1920s and 1950s, during the golden age of travel.
These stickers not only had a practical purpose but also represented a true cultural and artistic phenomenon.
Originally, the labels were affixed to suitcases to identify the owner or to facilitate luggage management during train, ship, or air travel.
In the 1950s, with the tourism boom, hotel labels became an advertising tool for hotels, but also a symbol of status for travelers.
Elegant and Refined Design: The stickers were often decorated with eye-catching graphics, featuring hotel logos, illustrations, and stylized representations of destinations. Some were real graphic masterpieces.
- Tourism Icons: They were designed to evoke the atmosphere and style of the destination, often including cultural, architectural, or natural references.
- Collectible: They became collectible items for travelers, who proudly displayed the labels on their luggage as proof of their experiences.
In the 1950s, international tourism was booming thanks to more accessible flights and the rise of organized holidays.
The stickers:
- Promoted Luxury Hotels: Chains like Hilton and Ritz-Carlton used these stickers to strengthen their brand.
- A Symbol of Elegance: Staying in prestigious hotels was considered a luxury, and the labels were a visible testimony to that.
- Decline: Over time, the stickers lost popularity, especially in the 1960s, with the evolution of hard-shell luggage and a change in design tastes.
Today, these labels are sought after by collectors and tell the story of an era when traveling was an exclusive experience. They represent a unique mix of art, tourism, and culture, capturing the spirit of travel in that time.

design and craftsmanship of italian masters
piero trentini

My name is Piero Trentini, and I am a craftsman who has dedicated his life to leatherworking. My journey began in a small workshop in Bologna, under the careful guidance of my father. In those years, the workshop was a magical place: the scent of freshly tanned leather and the constant rhythm of the hammer striking the soles of shoes created an atmosphere that, for me, was pure music. Every tool, every cut, had its own story, and I, with my still inexperienced hands, sought to capture every secret.
The path of craftsmanship is not easy, but it is full of lessons. My father taught me that it is not just about creating an object, but about infusing a part of oneself into it. So, for years, I dedicated myself to creating footwear, learning every step, from choosing the leathers to the final stitching. However, in 2001, I felt a calling, a desire for evolution, which led me to Florence, a city of unparalleled art and craftsmanship.
the origins

Firenze (Florence) welcomed me with its golden light and its streets paved with history. Here, the craft of the artisan holds a deep meaning, and working alongside the Florentine masters was like entering a new dimension. Every technique I learned was not just a method but a ritual, a celebration of excellence. I learned to work with the finest leathers: crocodile, ostrich, python, rays, noble materials that require respect and attention. And as I learned, the dream of creating something unique began to take shape in my mind.
About six years ago, I decided to turn that dream into reality. I wanted to create a bag that would not just be an accessory but a work of art, a one-of-a-kind piece, like a painting by a great master. Each bag was to be numbered, signed by me, and had to tell a story. I drew inspiration from Renaissance art, the elegant lines of Michelangelo’s sculptures, and the strength of Caravaggio’s colors. I wanted anyone who touched one of my creations to feel the echo of this tradition, the essence of a passion passed down through generations.
the know-how

Today, every bag I create is the result of years of study, sacrifices, and a dedication that knows no compromises. I carefully choose the leathers, spend hours cutting, sewing, and perfecting every detail. Each piece tells a story, a part of my life and my journey. Whoever holds one of my bags in their hands doesn’t just possess an object; they own a piece of my soul, a symbol of an art that lives and breathes, passed down from father to son.

Discover 'The history of stickers'
